Egypt, Mohamed Ali's Governmental Postal Service. Syria, letter written in Italian by the Sardinian Consul in Alep on 20/8/1840 during egyptian administration addressed to the Sardinian General Consul Agent in Alexandria. Sent by the Egyptian Governmental Post, with handwritten note "Clla posta del Governo" (By the Post of the Government). On the back, in arab pre-payment attested by Arabic handwritten "qrush 1 khales al -ijra" translating as "1 piastre, payment made". In the letter written in Italian, a real secret report, there is talk of the passage of Ibrahim Pacha, on his way to Damascus, to solicit the taxes arrears from the Syrian regional governors, to be used to pay troops. This happened when as early as August 11 the British commodore Charles Napier with a small squadron was in the bay of Beirut and asked for surrender Suleiman Pasha, commander of the city. Italian transcription included. Longo photo-certificate. ONE OF THE THREE LETTERS KNOWN FROM THIS ELUSIVE EGYPTIAN POSTAL SERVICE, A REAL GEM OF ARAB POSTAL HISTORY
